MEMBER UPDATES Robyn Stewart has a flying job in Saskatchewan! Most recently of Vancouver, Robyn is now flying Navajo's in Stony Rapids, Sask with Transwest. She flies both passengers and freight, and says she's getting pretty good at pulling the seats out! There's an opportunity to get some turbine time, and she says the only part that's not great is the size of the mosquitoes! Apparently they're pretty big! Speaking of Navajo's, Mazy Baker has been working full time for Selkirk Remote Sensing as 'Photo Charlie' based in YVR, doing aerial photography and mapping. Bethe Stenning from Vancouver, who did her flying training in YWG, and is now back on the wet coast, has started working with Montair on the Seneca! And a BIG congrats to Jill Gibbings, also formerly based in YVR - she just started with WestJet on the B737s this week! Hurray! Now from the east side of the country, here are some quick updates from Toronto: Lora Yowell is now a sessional flight instructor at Seneca College for their Aviation Flight Degree program. Micheline Rashleigh recently accepted a new job flying a Citation VII with Jet-Share Aviation Inc. based at Toronto Pearson airport. Kelly Vermeer of Toronto, Ontario has a new job as a first officer with Air Canada. Amy Weitzel is in Nigeria flying a Caravan for Fugro. She also won the WAI CRJ scholarship Congratulations to all of you! Keep the good news coming in! DID YOU KNOW......? Did you know that the very first 'FOD Radar' towers in the world, have been set up in Vancouver, and will go into operation in a month?! These towers house sophisticated radar, that sweeps the length of the runway continually, looking for a piece of FOD (Foreign Object Debris or Damage) that could pose a danger to aircraft. It can pick up something as small as a bolt, and can tell the difference between real FOD and non-FOD items on a runway like runway lights, bird that just stop for short while....and aircraft! ('Hey - who you callin' FOD?!) The International Aviation Press will be coming to Vancouver this summer to check it out, as other airports have similar systems on order....once we prove it works at our airport first! CWIA SHIRTS A CWIA shirt order is being compiled. The Toronto chapter plans on placing the order on June 12 to ensure delivery in time for the Canadian Aviation Expo there. Shirts are available in 3 different styles with many colour options for you to choose from. We require a minimum of 20 shirts requested for an order to be placed, please help us reach this goal. Shirts can be picked up at pre-arranged locations or for only $5 extra we will mail them to you. Please see www.cwia.ca/toronto.htm for an order form and all details. Please send us an e-mail to cwiayyz@hotmail.com when you have mailed your order so we know it's on it's way.
