CWIA Update - 02 Apr 2007 NOW'S YOUR CHANCE! There's a few days left for you to get the Early Bird low low cost for the CWIA conference this June 7-9. And everyone who books their hotel room by April 15th for the conference will be entered into the draw to stay in the Penthouse at the Harbour Towers hotel! After April 15th, the cost to register goes up. Come on, you know you want to go, it will be interesting, stimulating, and fun - - 40 hotel rooms from the conference block are already booked up - so the attendance figures are looking great! Go to www.cwia.ca/conference.htm now, print and fill in your registration to mail in, then call the hotel and book your room! Events are planned & booked, the schedule is posted on the website, and we're firming up more sponsors to help make this the best conference ever. SILENT AUCTION - we're putting together a silent auction, to benefit the Dreams Take Flight charity. We're putting together baskets, and thought it would be great if each chapter could bring a basket of items for conference delegates to bid on, to add to the other great auction items. Talk about it in your upcoming chapter get-togethers, and we'll see you in Victoria in June! NEW JOBS POSTED Been to the Career Board lately? Lots of jobs in need of good employees! Go to http://www.cwia.ca/board/index.php AM I TOO OLD TO START FLYING? How old is too old? Although many start quite young, many more only think about flying as a career later in life when they see other women pilots….but is it too late by then? Here’s an email from Mary Build, a pilot in the US, who was responding to that very question in the Pro99’s network email sent in by another woman considering taking flying lessons. Just in case you’re feeling old in your 30’s……or 40's...... Subject: Flying later in life Just my story! I started flying at 47, became a commercial pilot at 50, a seaplane pilot at 50, Flight instructor and CFI at 54 with my own seaplane operation, with a part 135 (commercial flying status in the US) and scenic flights at 55. Now, at 62, I’ve just been authorized to do Commercial and Instrument Check Rides along with Private, Recreational, Sport ASEL and ASES. I've never been happier! Now, I'm off to get some multi time and then add a multiengine sea rating so we can offer charter flights to our customers. If I can do it, you certainly can. It first takes the desire, and it's been fun learning more and more about my passion. Mary S. Build Katahdin Wings Chapter Naples Seaplane Service, Inc. It said in the internet chain letter that the followin was a Chinese proverb, so it must be the real source! But the fact is I like what it had to say, so I’m passing it on to you. By the way, you’re supposed to send this on to your 20 closest friends in the next 10 seconds, and you’ll be rich beyond your wildest dreams. If you don’t send it on in the next 10 seconds, the elastic in your waistband will give way and your pants will fall down!
