MEMBER UPDATE Angie Tanton has had a really interesting aviation career - bush flying in Northern Canada, flying floats in the Maldives, lobbying the government there to allow pregnant pilots to fly (it was illegal when she got there), then flying pregnant and raising her son Ryan with her husband in the Maldives, then moving back to Canada the DAY BEFORE the big tsunami! The first half was skill and hard work, but the timing to move back was pure luck! Once back in Canada, Angie and her husband Steve added their new son Jackson to the family, and along with a partner started operating Float Safety, a float plane training operation based out of YVR. Float Safety is still operating, but Angie and her 3 men moved up north to Yellowknife NT a year ago - so what's been going on with her there? Here's a quick update from Angie: 'We moved here last year to partner into a small airline called Summit Air Charters. (Should be all ours in about 4 months!!) We have doubled our staff and our flying in the past year, so its been a huge growth and a tonne of work. We have 3 Dornier 228 and 3 Shorts SkyVans. A lot of our work is for mining camps and the DND. The Dornier is a great machine because it has a huge payload, short strip capability, holds 7 hours fuel and trues at 205 kts. We spend the winter going in and out of ice strips for the most part and the summer going in and out of gravel strips. What's my role in the business? I fly a bit and work in the office a bit. The rest of my time is spent with my little monkeys! On a personal note, after 3 years off having babies, I am back at it! It feels awesome. I am gearing up the kids for their first job in a few years....on the ramp! Cheers, Angie' Great Angie! Enjoy it all, and keep us updated on your new arrival! CHAPTER NEWS AND EVENTS OTTAWA - GATINEAU CHAPTER We are nearing the end of April which means we are nearing the time for another CWIA get together! Yay! We had a great turn out earlier this month and so I thought we'd repeat the location and timing for May. Let's meet at the Royal Oak (800 Hunt Club Rd) at 7:30pm on Thursday, 3 May 07. Hopefully if the weather is nice we can sit outside. If you are interested, I'd like to arrange a picnic at the Rideau Valley Airpark to watch the gliders. I propose a weekend get together for either the 26th or 27th of May at 10am. Please let me know if this interests you and which day would suit you better. If you'd prefer another day then let me know. We'll make the final date selection at the meeting on May 3rd. Please see the attached website. It looks awesome! http://www.rideauvalleysoaring.com/ I also propose a day outing to the Canadian Aviation Expo in Oshawa which takes place 22-24 June (thanks for the info Kelly). Here’s another one I like: “A very bad (and all too common) way to misread a newspaper: To see whatever supports your point of view as fact, and anything that contradicts your point of view as bias.” ~ Daniel Okrent, Ombudsman Your Chapter (and prospective chapter) Presidents, Claire Maxwell in Ottawa-Gatineau (#29598) Teara Fraser in Vancouver (#14156) Katie Childerhose in Winnipeg (#9160) Michelle Bentzen in Calgary (#6037) Lisa Graham in Toronto (#8030) as well as Newly Forming Prospective Chapters: Laura Denis in Edmonton (#16016) Toni Duguay (#14386) in Montreal ~ If you ever wish to not receive these emails again, please let us know and we can take you off the list no problemo! ~ What's your chapter up to?
